Mixed reactions greets new price of Petrol in Kano
Situation report in the state indicates, that while, most of the consumers of the commodity welcomed the resolve of government to increase the price some section of the consumers are opposed to it.
Responding to enquiry from BusinessDay on development, Abdullahi Alwusa, a car owner, said the increment is good as it will go a long way in ending the persistent scarcity of the commodity bringing experience in the state.
Alwusa also noted that the increment in the price of the commodity will bring to an end the racketeering which characterized fuel distribution, particularly in the northern part of the country.
“I am fully in support of the decision by the Federal Government to increase the pump price of PMS. This decision is a practical step towards addressing the perennial fuel scarcity being experience in Nigeria.
“As you know one of the major problems confronting fuel availability in the country, are the activities of the black market operators, who are responsible for disruption causing the scarcity.
“The increase will bring a permanent end to their operations, as well as diversion of the product to the neighboring country, such as Cameroun, and Benin Republic” he stated.
However, Emo Brown, a Kano based entrepreneur, described the increment as additional burden to the cost of doing business in the state, pointing out that it will make the cost of movement of goods and services more expensive.
Mean-while, prevailing situation in the state shows that the fuel scarcity is still raging, with a build -up of long lines of motorizes being observed at most of the Fuel Stations in the metropolis.
