The administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in Kano state has presented 2017 budget proposal of over N209.8 billion to the State House of Assembly for considerations.
The proposal with the theme ‘Budget of Sustainable, and Self Reliance’ which was set before the legislatures on Wednesday is lower by about N66 billion than that of the out- going financial year.
The bulk of the spending in the proposal which was the second that governor Ganduje will be presenting to the House, since assuming office on May, 2015, would be devoted to infrastructural development.
Details of the proposal indicate that over N130 billion out of the total budget would be expended on capital projects, while, N79 billion was for re-current expenditures.
The budget would be partially financed to the tune of N97 billion expected from the Federation Account, N46 billion from Internally Generated Revenue sources.
The single biggest allocation of over N43.7 billion was set aside for the Work and Housing Ministry, and N567 million out of the amount will be used to finance the construction of proposed Kano Light Rail project.
The second highest allocation of N17.5 billion was allocated to the Ministry of Education, over N8billion out of the amount to be devoted to the development of capital projects in all the state owned higher institutions.
The Ministry of Land and Physical Planning got the third biggest allocation of N16.8 billion; over N4 billion out of the amount was proposed for the continuation of road development within the metropolis.
The Ministry of Water Resoruces got the fourth biggest allocation of N13.5 billion, and the sum of N6.5 billion out of the total allocation to the sector would be used for purchase of water treatment inputs for all the Water Treatment Plants.
Ministry of Health was allocated over N10.7 billion, and N3.4 billion out of the amount for the Preventive Health Care delivery with special focus on polio, malaria control, and AIDs management.
Ministry of Agriculture was allocated N6.6 billion over N2.2 billion out of the total amount has been set aside for the finance of various agricultural development projects.
The Ministry of Environment was allocated N1.7 billion, Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism got N1.7 billion, Ministry of Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture got N1.25 billion, Ministry of Justice got N702 million,
