Nigerian actress Aisat Iyabode Asamu, AKA Aishy, presently living in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, has not abandoned her first career as a hairstylist.
“I was a professional hairstylist before acting which I still am. I’m so passionate about it and I love what I do,” she declared.
The first daughter and second child of her parents’ seven children, Oyo State-born Aishy, as she is fondly called came to prominence is movies such as Okun Ebi and Get a Girlfriend.
Being an actress she averred had changed her lifestyle. “It has given me more exposure, and I have been doing a lot more travelling and some interesting things I wouldn’t do on a regular day,” she said.
These changes, for her, are concomitant with important lessons of life. “I’ve learnt not to put my hopes in people, and believe in myself, while confiding less in people,” she said.
She also expressed her desire to see significant changes taking place in the entertainment sector. “There are lots of changes I would really like to see,” she said. “For instance, I would like everyone in the sector to imbibe the philosophy that we can all win big without resorting to dog-eat-dog attitude; there is space enough for everyone to shine.”
Her advice to young people still pursuing fame and fortune and hoping for a breakthrough was simple and blunt: “Have a dream, believe in yourself, execute your dreams and don’t ever limit yourself.”
Aishy, who enumerated what she considered the treasures of her life as her faith, her husband and family and her money, further disclosed what she won’t be caught doing in the name of fashion. “Fashion is a way of introducing yourself without having to say a word. Therefore, I would not wear something that’s going to expose my whole body,” she affirmed.
