Fresh Taraba attack claims one life, properties destroyed
At least one person has been confirmed dead and property worth millions destroyed in an attack on villages around Tortsee in Takum local government area of Taraba state between Friday and Tuesday, residents said.
A community leader and former Counselor representing Chanchanji Ward, Philip Nzue, told our correspondent that Terseer Korior was ambushed and killed by  Jukun youths at Kasuan Haske near Takum while seven houses were burnt by the irate youths between Friday and Tuesday.
Ndzue said the youths acting on the presumption that Tiv people killed their kinsman,  Yakubu Njira, launched attacks on innocent people killing and burning houses.
“We expect that if something happens security agencies should be allowed to do their work instead of other people taking laws into their hands.
“If not for the quick response of the Council Chairman Takum Shiban Tikari, the issue would have degenerated,”he said.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state,  DSP David Misal, confirmed the killing of one person on his farm and burning of some houses in the area,  but said he was not aware of the killing of another person in the area.
“We have a report of the killing of one person by yet to be identified people on farmland which is being disputed in court.
“I am aware that a round hut was also burnt in the area,  but I am not aware of the killing of seven persons in response to that incident,” he said.
