Presidential Media Aide Garba Shehu has said the crisis currently rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is part of the punishment from God for the wrongs they did to Nigeria.

He said the party should consider making amends by first apologizing to Nigerians before trying to work its way back to relevance.

“The crisis in the PDP is a God-sent. They mismanaged this country, they had the chance to run this country, well, they failed to do it.

“The fact they are divided and broken, let them reflect on what they did in office and see whether they can make amends and the starting point will be for them to apologise to Nigerians for all of the things that they did, then they can work back to relevance or else God has a way of punishing you now or later. What they are seeing now is God-sent” Shehu said.

Shehu who spoke in an interview with  our correspondent was reacting to allegations that President Muhammadu Buhari was fueling the crisis in the PDP using the de-facto Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sherriff who is his inlaw.

The PDP had in May this year broken into two factions, with some ex-governors and other stakeholders leading a faction of the party different from that led by former the Borno governor, Sheriff. The breakaway group is being chaired by former Kaduna state governor, Ahmed Makarfi.

The crisis rocking the country’s main opposition political party, the PDP, on Wednesday took a new turn when the proposed venue of the party’s convention was sealed by Security Operatives.  The other faction of the party had reconvened at the Rivers state party secretariat on Aba road in Port Harcourt Wednesday after armed security operatives sealed off Sharks stadium, which was the initial venue of the convention.

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja had on Monday granted an interim order suspending the August 17 national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, pending the determination of the application filed before him on July 20.

The judge had given an order after a lawyer representing the Sheriff faction informed him that the Makarfi faction’s national secretary, Ben Obi, had approached the Port Harcourt division of the Federal High Court to obtain an interim injunction.

The injunction compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies not to take part in the convention.
