Buhari to appoint ministers after inauguration of 8th legislative assembly

The hope that the new president, Muhammadu Buhari will name members of his cabinet soon was dashed as it bacame clear on Monday that the most sort after ministerial list will be put on hold till the eighth legislative assembly convenes.

There has been serious agitation in some quarters for the president to name members of his cabinet in a bid to start the implementation of his campaign promises.

Speaking with newsmen on Monday, the president, through Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, said the president will not rush assembly naming members of his cabinet as the eighth legislative assembly was yet to convene.

“I have no idea (on when the ministerial lists will be released) but it is not something anybody will rush because you know that the National Assembly has to approve. When are you going to have National Assembly in place? That is the question. Unless you are governor Fayose, you can not take your ministerial list to the outgoing parliament,” Shehu said.

The eighth legislative assembly is expected to convene on Friday, June 5, but it still remind unclear whether screening of ministerial nominees will be conducted on their first day of meeting.
