Boat mishap: Police confirm four missing

The Delta state Police Command has confirmed that four persons missing after a boat mishap that involved 22 passengers who were returning from ward 3 Ebrohimi to Koko after Saturday’s election in Delta.

In a statement by the state’s Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Chuks Orisewezie the boat was conveying twenty- two (22) passengers, three (3) Policemen and nineteen (19) members of the community when the accident occurred along the water way at Ureju community.

According statement, Eighteen passengers including three (3) Policemen and fifteen (15) natives have so far been successfully rescued, while four (4) passengers are still missing.

The statement added that two of the rescued passengers have been rushed to the Oghara General Hospital.

The police noted that contrary to earlier report on social media, “no INEC official or NYSC member was involved in the boat mishap, adding that search for the missing passengers is still in progress.”

While calling for calm, the Commissioner of Police Delta State Command, CP Adeyinka Adeleke reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Deltans at all times.
