Placard-carrying women have protested the conduct of the gubernatorial election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State along the main Chief Melford Okilo Expressway close to the collation centre.
The women were dressed mainly in black to honour their children who they said have been killed due to election violence in the area.
They criticised the role of the military in the election in the area, alleging that soldiers were directly involved in perpetrating electoral fraud.
According to them, they were denied their right to vote in many units and wards, and even in areas where they voted, they had to do it at about midnight which ran contrary to what obtains in civilised societies.
They chanted ‘we must vote’, as security operatives prevented them from getting closer to the collation centre.
