Akinwunmi-AmbodeLagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is making strong inroad into participatory governance with the maiden edition of what is to be a quarterly town hall meeting with Lagosians and stakeholders, in his four-year tenure.

In the first edition taking place today, at Abesan mini stadium, Ipaja, in Lagos West Senatorial District, the governor will be explaining what he has done since assumption of office on May 29, at the event, which will also offer the people the opportunity to talk with their governor.

The government intends to take the meeting round the different senatorial districts of the state.

The town hall meeting is in fulfilment Ambode’s campaign promise to engage the citizenry and chart a path where regular interactions will take place to inundate people with plans, policies and programmes of the government in line with his pledge of participatory governance.

“The importance attached to the forum is borne out of the fact that it would allow for divergent opinions and views from various sources. The desire to maximise the diverse potentials in the state informed the need to embrace this generally acceptable window of interaction from all stakeholders in the state,” said Fola Adeyemi, permanent secretary, state ministry of information and strategy.

According to Adeyemi, the people being the bedrock of any society must be actively involved in governance, adding that Governor Ambode’s administration is a people-oriented government.

The permanent secretary listed some achievements of the present administration within the first quarter to include the reconstruction of Ejigbo-Ikotun Road, Isolo-Ikotun Road, Brown Street, Oshodi, provision of 20 mobile care units’ ambulances and 26 ambulances deployed across various General Hospitals, among others.

He said the administration was poised to deliver on his electioneering campaign promises by improving on the standard of living of our people, attract foreign investment and build a prosperous Lagos.

The permanent secretary implored all stakeholders to “turn out en masse at the maiden town hall meeting, which will provide a veritable avenue for them to interact with the governor.”
