Under-pressure Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso insists he retains the full backing of both the club’s board and the dressing room ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Manchester City.
Speculation over Alonso’s future intensified after Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat to Celta Vigo, with reports suggesting he could be dismissed if Real Madrid suffer a heavy loss to Pep Guardiola’s side.
But speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard dismissed the rumours and stressed the unity within the club.

“Communication is constant; it’s based on trust, unity, and affection. We are all in this together,” Alonso said.
“We have to get through the good times and the difficult times without wavering. Tomorrow we have a very exciting match, and we need the energy and connection with the Bernabéu crowd.”
Real Madrid have won just one of their last five La Liga matches, raising concerns over Alonso’s tactics, team selection, and system. Injuries and suspensions have added to the crisis, with Sunday’s match ending in two red cards.
Asked about names being linked to his job, Alonso brushed aside the speculation.
“When you’re coaching Real Madrid, you’re prepared to deal with these situations,” he said.
“All I’m thinking about is tomorrow’s match.”
He added, “This team is united. We know we can turn this around. The anger from the weekend has shifted into excitement for tomorrow. Fortunately, in football, perspectives can change quickly, and we’re at that moment.”
Real Madrid host Manchester City on Wednesday in what could be a defining night for Alonso’s tenure.
