Officers of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LSNC) have arrested two employees of Ikeja Electric for allegedly stealing electrical cables from a transformer in the Ogba area of Lagos.
The suspects, Oluwadamilola Wasiu, 30, and Adekunle Faruk, 24, both members of the Debt Management Control Unit of Ikeja Electric, were reportedly caught in the act late at night while cutting cables from a transformer on Lawson Street in Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA). Their accomplice, identified only as Ibrahim, managed to escape with their tools and other suspected stolen items.

The arrest was made possible through the vigilance of local residents, who noticed suspicious activity around the transformer and alerted the LSNC. Officers from the Ojodu Command swiftly responded to the scene, apprehending Wasiu and Faruk before they could flee.
A statement from the LSNC detailed the incident, stating that the two suspects were caught red-handed on March 24, 2025, at approximately 1:06 PM. Community members played a crucial role in ensuring their capture, preventing further damage to critical infrastructure.
Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution. Authorities are also working to track down Ibrahim, who remains at large.

Reacting to the incident, LSNC General Manager Ifalade Oyekan commended the residents of Lawson Street for their vigilance and restraint, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in tackling crime. He reassured Lagosians that LSNC remains committed to working closely with local communities to enhance security and support Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for a safer Lagos.
Cable theft has been an ongoing challenge in Lagos, often leading to power disruptions and economic losses. Security agencies continue to urge residents to report suspicious activities to help curb the menace.
