Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint Thomas Frank as their new manager after reaching an agreement with Brentford, following the sack of Ange Postecoglou last week, just 16 days after the Australian guided Spurs to Europa League glory.
According to the UK’s Press Association, initial talks between the clubs focused on the terms of Frank’s current contract, which runs until 2027 and includes a release clause believed to be around £10 million. Discussions also included negotiations over which members of Frank’s backroom staff would make the switch to north London.
A deal was struck on Thursday, and The Athletic reported that the appointment of the 51-year-old Dane is now imminent.
Frank, who took charge of Brentford in 2018 after initially joining as an assistant coach, led the club to promotion in 2021, their first top-flight appearance in 74 years. Since then, he has kept the Bees competitive in the Premier League, recording finishes of 13th, 9th, 16th, and 10th, despite the club regularly selling key players.
Before his time at Brentford, Frank worked in the Danish national youth system and later managed Brøndby for three years.
Spurs, who will play in next season’s UEFA Champions League after winning the Europa League with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao, parted ways with Postecoglou due to a dismal domestic campaign. Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League, losing 22 of their 38 matches.
Frank’s task will now be to restore stability and competitiveness to Spurs in the league while building on their European success.
