President Bola Tinubu has rewarded D’Tigress with $100,000 each, a national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and a three-bedroom flat in Abuja for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship held in Ivory Coast.
The announcement was made during a reception held in their honour at the State House on Monday evening.

The rewards come in recognition of the team’s historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship, where they clinched their seventh overall title and fifth consecutive title by defeating Mali 78–64 in a hard-fought final on Sunday.
The victory further cemented D’Tigress’ dominance in African women’s basketball and ignited celebrations across the country.
Each player was officially conferred with the OON national honour and allocated a flat in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate, a flagship residential initiative under the Tinubu administration.
Praising the team’s performance, President Tinubu commended their courage, discipline, and unity, describing them as role models for young Nigerians and symbols of national excellence.
Delivering the president’s remarks, Vice President Kashim Shettima said:
“You have done the nation proud. Winning the AfroBasket championship five times in a row is no small feat. It takes discipline, focus, and unity — qualities that every Nigerian should emulate. Your victory brings honour not just to sports, but to the entire country. You deserve every accolade, every recognition, and every reward.”
