President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Bashir Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), by one year, the presidency announced on Wednesday.
Adeniyi, appointed in June 2023, was initially due to complete his term on August 31, 2025. The extension now stretches his tenure to 2026.

The Presidency said the extension will allow Adeniyi to “consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of this administration,” including the modernisation of Customs operations, rollout of the National Single Window, and the implementation of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security,” Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.
