The work force in Nigeria Economy has large percentage of trading and marketing personnels both professionals &non-professionals. The outside world having noticed how Nigerians thrive fast in the areas of selling and marketing is not dragging their feet in exploring the business oppportunities here. One of such areas that are making waves in Nigeria and creating lots of self employed jobs are the Multi level Marketing (MLM) business chains who are mostly from abroad.
Few of them have established here in Nigeria many years back but the awareness was not much as it is presently. Infact years back most Nigerians never understood what they are all about apart from seeing their products on display in some shops and supermakets. Those who were into such business here in Nigeria also had no aggressive Marketing strategies and awareness like they do presently.
I have personally come across most of them with their mouth watering bonus offers but being whom i am and my line of job, i have also taken my time to be monitoring them, evaluating some of their products which appeals to me as they unfold their market levels in Nigeria. Some keep to their promises and some do not(depending on which ones you decide to join)
Why is the MLM business useful to Nigerians? First, we must understand that if these companies are not relevant to the Nigerian economy, they would not be allowed to register and operate here. Most of them are registered and have great presence in most states of Nigeria. The MLM has been very useful to job seekers in Nigeria because their style of work is very flexible for job seekers including those who want to earn extra income to add up to their already wages/salaries.
It enables most job seekers to be self employed and run their business at their own pace without stress or too much financial implications. This is a business you can do from home or anywhere comfortable for you without having to pay millions of cash to rent a shop/office. Nigerians who understand how these businessess work have been making lots of money from it at ease as long as the products of the MLM company they are selling are highly effective, good and healthy for consumers.
I have also done some surveys and discovered that most Jobless Nigerians especially females love to do this business but lack the basic skills and training on how to start and make the best of it. Most ladies i interviewed keep giving the excuse that they do not have what it takes to approach and convince people to join/buy the products. What i find funny is that, such ladies who give such flimsy excuses are simply not ready to work because the same ladies who cannot talk to people are seen chatting away with friends from morning till evening sitting at one corner or visiting people who are busy working at their various offices. The period you use to chat and visit people who probably feel you are being a leech to them, would have been utilized to talk about your products. Such ladies are also the ones who spent time on BB pinging and chatting about celebrities who know nothing about how they survive, if they live or die…following all kinds of online gossips. Are you aware that your BB, iphones, are great tools to do such business? So what is tedious about marketing?
Moreover these MLM Companies always organize free seminars where they train and show interested job seekers how to market their products. It is suprising that you see people already working join the business more than job seekers. These are people who understand what hardwork means yet you see jobless youths giving all kinds of excuse and still complain of not getting a job.
How can you train yourself to benefit from joining MLM business plus knowing the right one to join?
The idea of not knowing how to approach people /talking too much does not come in here because if you have what i would refer to as –chronic shyness when it comes to approaching people, all you need is buy the products and supply to various outlets like shops, supermarkets where you feel need such products you are marketing. The social Media is also there and most people who claim to be jobless spend lots of time and money on browsing the internet. You can create a marketing page/group for your products and advertise it online. Join hands with other individual marketers and organize small seminars regularly. How do you prepare your Personal Image to attract buyers/Affiliates? If you are selling something to people it is vital you take good care of your persoanl image starting with your physical appearance. Your outward appearance is the first thing the person you approach notices while he/she listens to what you got to say. Do not talk about health/hygienic products to people and you look so sick, dirty in appearance. You cannot be selling a herbal toopaste that destroys mouth ordor and your breathe stinks. The person you are talking to will simply wave you aside and you will still be talking while she/he walks away. Simple body hygiene like smelling good and being well dressed helps you to catch peoples attention to listen to you. Also do not use too much grammer and old slogan used by the company you represent over and over rather use your own words to explain to the person you are selling to. One lady came to me with a flyer of her MLM for me to see and when i started asking her about the products i saw there, she was dumb, infact she did not even know most of the products, their benefits but was concentrating on only one item on the flyer. Infact i had to teach her about the health benefits of most of the products she is selling. I advised her to go back and learn about what she is selling very well.
