Fresh political crisis is brewing in Rivers State as Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the state House of Assembly has accused Siminalayi Fubara, state of governor, of unauthorized spending and incorrect statement on efforts at political reconciliation in the state.
Amaewhule, who was speaking in Port Harcourt on Thursday December 11, 2025, accused Fubara of making incorrect statements regarding his meetings with lawmakers.
The allegation comes in response to Fubara’s comment on Wednesday in which he described speculations of a rift between him and federal or state lawmakers from Rivers State as unfounded.
Amaewhule, according to a release by Martins Wachukwu, Special Assistant on Media, to the Speaker, “debunked the false narrative” that Fubara “had not met with the members of the House since the lifting of the Emergency Rule because the political leader of the state, who is the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike has not called for a meeting between the governor and the House Members.”
The release said Amaewhule was addressing the media “to correct the wrong narrative, and to straighten what he called the bare-faced lies spewed by Gov. Siminialayi Fubara in his recent outing.
“The Speaker referenced the speech of the governor where he alluded that his inability to meet with the members of the House was predicated on the refusal of the FCT Minister to call for such a meeting.
“Rt. Hon. Amaewhule stated that shortly after the termination of the emergency rule in the state, there was a meeting between some principal officers and the governor including some stakeholders.
“He went further to say that about three of such meetings have been facilitated by Minister Wike but Gov. Fubara has refused to implement any of the resolutions reached in all the meetings.
“The Speaker wondered how many meetings would be enough for the governor to act responsibly; adding that the governor’s outburst during a project commissioning on Wednesday was condemnable and urged the governor to grow up as a leader.

“Rt. Hon Amaewhule advised the governor to be more mature in dealing with the resources of the State, stressing that his tantrums against Minister Wike will not help him in any way,” the release said.
Amaewhule, according to radio reports monitored in Port Harcourt, further claimed the governor told them at a meeting held after the emergency rule that he will not present a state budget to them.
“Even after the emergency rule, we discussed with him in the meeting, saying, look, bring your budget so that we can take care of all you intend to do for the remaining part of 2025. During that meeting, the governor told us blatantly that he will not do it,” he said.
Amaewhule also accused Governor Fubara of spending Rivers funds without approval and awarding contracts to his allies, including people he suggested might be involved in burning down the Assembly complex.
“In September, when we met with the governor to this day, the governor has been spending without a approval, awarding contracts to his cronies, particularly those who masterminded the burning of the Rivers State Assembly. Awarding contracts to them and they’re celebrating it on social media, mocking us that they’ve been rewarded for burning down the Rivers State Assembly,” he said.
Siminalayi Fubara, Rivers State governor, however said said all his effort to meet with members of the national and state Assemblies had been frustrated.
The governor, while commissioning a road project on Wednesday, dismissed insinuations that he refused to meet the demands of lawmakers, explaining that the FCT minister had yet to arrange an agreed meeting.
“I personally do not have any disagreement or any anger anywhere with my members of the National Assembly, even that of the state. But, every effort to meet with them … But the arrangement wasn’t for me to call them directly. It was for my leader the minister to arrange the meeting which up to this hour that meeting has not been fixed,” he said.
