One of Microsoft’s newly launched flagship devices; the Lumia 950 has taken the Nigerian mobile phone market by storm with its stylish yet highly functional, distinctive features.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 comes in a 5.2 inch screen and quad HD resolution. This is the first time we have had a quad in a Microsoft phone.

The 20 mega pixel camera with triple LED flash, flat glass fronts and gorilla glass 3 on the first windows 10 mobile ever, makes this device a dream come true for many Smartphone lovers.

Although the Microsoft Lumia 950 does not come with finger print recognition to unlock it like other newer smartphone models, it has the cool hello feature (iris recognition) which allows the phone to scan your eyes and unlock the device, saying ‘hello’ to you with the stored name on the device.
The Lumia 950 looks, feels and runs like your average-sized Android phone, only that the phone’s operating system is Windows 10 mobile, which makes it work like a PC, much to the benefit of Microsoft’s diehard fans and PC holdouts.

Microsoft quotes 10 hours of video playback and after almost a month of owning the device, I have found the battery life to be very good, depending on what the phone is being used for of course. Lighter users may get a couple of days from the Lumia 950 while most will have to charge at the end of every day.

The removable cover not only gives access to the card slot but also the battery which a lot of users will be pleased to hear is removable and easily changeable. It is 3000mAh in capacity and the Lumia 950 supports both fast charging and Qi wireless charging. Microsoft has opted for a Type-C USB port which is reversible and the phone charges from completely dead to 30 percent in 30 minutes.

The combination of charging features means it is easy to keep the phone charged up and you can carry a spare battery around if you wish.

Speaking at the launching of the Lumia 950 in Lagos Nigeria recently, Joseph Umunakwe, General Manager, West, East and Central Africa, Microsoft Mobile Devices and Services, reiterated Microsoft’s commitment to empowering every individual and organisation on the planet to achieve more.

“The Lumia 950 delivers a familiar and consistent experience that extends across your Windows devices from key apps like Office built-in to provide access to all your stuff via OneDrive and the cloud.” he said.

Also speaking, Olumide Balogun, Head of Marketing, Nigeria and Ghana, ‎Microsoft Mobile Devices and Services, noted that the Lumia 950/950XL is a phenomenon that drives seamless experience from productivity, security, usability and availability.

“Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL provide stunning displays, the latest in processing power, and improved battery life and quick charging. The Continuum for phones feature combined with the Microsoft Display Dock enables you to connect the phones to a monitor, mouse and keyboard and work like a PC.”

Inside the Lumia 950 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor which is hexa-core and 3GB of RAM.

As standard there is 32GB of storage which is double a lot of its rivals. There is also a Micro-SD card slot which means you can add up to 200GB of external memory which makes it even more lovable for those who have hundreds of pictures, music and files on their phones.

What the Lumia 950 provides is a plastic removable rear cover and completely flat glass with a weight of 150g and 8.2mm. The phone comes in two basic colours of black and white which distinguishes it as a strictly business phone.

Screen transitions on the Lumia 950 are silky and the camera loads very quickly after the first time, instantly ready to take another shot.

On the connectivity front, the Lumia 950 has a lot of modern features. It offers 11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS and 4G LTE support (Cat 6).

The Lumia 950 has a 20 mega pixel (mp) camera which produces crystal clear pictures and does not require a huge lump on the back to fit it in, just a small one.

Microsoft has kept the physical camera button on the side which makes the camera feature extremely handy.

You can shoot with rich capture on auto which now uses HDR and we like the way shots aren’t processed straight away meaning you can keep snapping. There are also optional controls over settings like white balance, ISO, brightness and even shutter speed if you want.
