Netflix has once again raised its subscription prices in Nigeria, with its Premium Plan increasing by 21.43 per cent to N8,500 per month from N7,000.

The latest price adjustment marks the first time the platform has increased its prices in 2025, but the third time since 2024, when it raised prices twice within the space of three months.

According to the price update on the company’s website, the Standard plan subscription, which offers HD quality and multi-screen viewing options, has been increased from N5,500 to N6,500, marking an 18.18 percent rise. Netflix’s Basic plan, previously priced at N3,500, has increased by 14.29 percent to N4,000, while the lowest subscription plan, Mobile, has risen by 13.64 percent from N2,200 to N2,500.

When it raised prices in April 2024, the streaming giant said it was part of a broader strategy to revise its subscription fees across various regions. The changes, according to the company, were aimed at accelerating its revenue and earnings growth, following a pattern of periodic price hikes to support the expansion of content offerings.

“As we invest in and improve Netflix, we’ll occasionally ask our members to pay a little extra to reflect those improvements, which in turn helps drive the positive flywheel of additional investment to further improve and grow our service,” the company told investors in a shareholders’ note.

While the company hasn’t explicitly mentioned inflation, it explained on its website that price changes are made to respond to local market changes, such as changes to local taxes or inflation.

Netflix continues the trend of top technology firms such as Google, DSTV, GOtv, and Microsoft raising their subscription prices in Nigeria due to double-digit inflation and a weakened naira.
