Kayode Obembe, president of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) is believed to have resigned over the controversy now surrounding his decision to suspend the nationwide strike embarked upon by the association since July 1, 2014.
The NMA suspended the strike to help in curtailing the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EBV) imported into Nigeria by late Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian-American citizen, who flew into Lagos on July 20, to attend an ECOWAS conference in Calabar, Cross River State.
An executive of the NMA said members were planning to impeach Obembe for suspending the strike, as he was said to have acted contrary to the provision of the association’s constitution due to pressure from the Federal Government.
