World Cup Qualifier: Super Eagles arrive in Bloemfontein ahead of South Africa showdown

The Super Eagles landed in Bloemfontein on Sunday evening ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa scheduled for Tuesday at the Toyota Stadium.

A delegation of 22 players, along with the technical and administrative crew, touched down at Bloemfontein Airport.

The only absentee is striker Victor Osimhen, who picked up an injury during Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday.

The Nigerian contingent was warmly received by the country’s High Commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency Tope Ajayi, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Adeyinka Adeboye, alongside top officials of the National Sports Commission and members of the Nigerian community.

The delegation was led by NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and included House of Representatives Committee on Sports Chairman Hon. Kabiru Amadu, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, former captains Nwankwo Kanu and Victor Ikpeba, as well as other NFF officials, stakeholders, and media representatives.

The Super Eagles will hold their official training session at the Toyota Stadium on Monday evening.

Group C leaders South Africa currently sit on 16 points from seven matches, while Nigeria trails in third with 10 points, behind second-placed Benin. Tuesday’s clash is expected to be pivotal in shaping the qualification race.
