Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich overpowered Chelsea 3-1 in a Champions League cracker played at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
In Chelsea’s first game at Europe’s top level since 2022/23, their inexperience showed as Trevoh Chalobah’s own goal handed Bayern the lead before Kane took control. The England striker, 32, converted a penalty he won himself and later punished a Malo Gusto error with a curled finish to seal victory.
Cole Palmer briefly gave Chelsea hope with a superb strike on his 100th appearance for the club, but the Blues wasted early chances through Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernández, while Palmer also had a late effort ruled out for offside.
New Bayern loanee Nicolas Jackson came off the bench against his parent club in stoppage time but had little impact. Chelsea now turn their attention to Benfica’s visit to Stamford Bridge next week, a clash that could mark the return of José Mourinho as Blues manager.
