Two billion football fans watching 2023 AFCON- CAF

According to Patrice Motsepe, the President of Confederation of African Football (CAF), about two billion football fans globally are watching the excitement of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Motsepe disclosed this at a news conference, ahead of the 2023 AFCON final on Sunday.

He described the feat as an achievement that Africans should be proud of.

“We have had close to two billion people watching AFCON globally. We should be proud as Africans and the next one will be even better.

“The success of Africa depends upon Africa working together, trading together, and in football, countries competing and playing together,” he said.

Motsepe, in a press conference disclosed that it is an achievement that Africans should be proud of while promising that the next edition in 2025 will be better.

In the highly anticipated showdown on Sunday, Nigeria’s Super Eagles of Nigeria will lock horns with hosts Ivory Coast in a blockbuster final at the 60,000-capacity Alassane Ouattara Stadium.

South Africa and DR Congo will battle it out for a third-place finish on Saturday at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.
