Super Eagles defeat Reggae Boyz of Jamaica to win 2025 Unity Cup

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica in a dramatic penalty shootout to win the 2025 Unity Cup final at the Gtech Community Stadium in West London on Saturday.

The thrilling contest ended 2-2 in regulation time, with both teams exchanging goals in a pulsating encounter that had the vibrant crowd on the edge of their seats.

Moses Simon opened the scoring early, converting Cyriel Dessers’ clever cross in the 9th minute, but Jamaica responded swiftly through Kaheim Dixon, who capitalised on Rumarn Burrell’s run and cut-back just three minutes later.

Samuel Chukwueze restored Nigeria’s lead with a brilliant solo effort in the 53rd minute, ghosting past defenders and slotting the ball into the bottom left corner. Yet again, the Reggae Boyz showed
resilience, as Jonathan Russell equalised in the 63rd minute, finishing off another well-worked move down the right flank.

With no winner after 90 minutes, the match went to penalties. The Super Eagles held their nerve, converting all five of their kicks; Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Christantus Uche all found the net, while Jamaica faltered with their fourth spot kick.

The victory marks Nigeria’s second consecutive Unity Cup title, exactly 21 years after the Super Eagles defeated Jamaica 2-0 in another friendly at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic, with goals from John Utaka and Bartholomew Ogbeche.
