New York Jets owner Woody Johnson acquires 43% stake in Crystal Palace

Premier League club Crystal Palace have confirmed that Woody Johnson, owner of NFL franchise New York Jets, has acquired John Textor’s 43% stake in the club in a deal valued at around £190 million.

The 78-year-old American businessman and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom now joins chairman Steve Parish, Josh Harris, and David Blitzer as co-owner and director at Selhurst Park after completing the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test and signing the owners’ charter.

“I am honoured and privileged to be joining the ownership group of Crystal Palace Football Club,” Johnson said via the club’s official website.

“It is an organisation with a proud history and deep roots in English football, which I came to admire during my time as U.S. Ambassador to the UK. Eagles fans have shown incredible passion and loyalty. I look forward to meeting them and becoming part of the community.”

Johnson acquired the New York Jets in 2000 and is an heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical empire.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his estimated net worth stood at £6.8 billion ($9.18 billion) in 2024.
