Manchester United have identified RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as their top attacking target this summer, according to The Athletic.
United have opened informal talks with Leipzig after placing the 22-year-old Slovenian at the top of their shortlist. Sesko is also attracting interest from Newcastle United, who may move for him amid growing uncertainty over Alexander Isak’s future.
Earlier this week, reports indicated that Man United had narrowed their options down to Sesko and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. While Watkins remains highly rated at Old Trafford, Villa have made it clear he is not for sale, and United are unwilling to meet a valuation that could alter that stance.
The Red Devils have already bolstered their attack this summer with the signings of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. Despite this, the club remains keen on further reinforcements, and Šeško is viewed as a long-term solution.
United previously scouted Šeško in 2019 but declined to meet Red Bull Salzburg’s €3 million asking price at the time. The Slovenian forward has since evolved into one of Europe’s top young strikers, scoring 39 goals and registering eight assists in 87 appearances for Leipzig since his move in 2023.
Sesko extended his contract last year until 2029, but the renewal included a verbal agreement allowing a move if a top club submitted an offer in the range of £69m to £78m.
A senior international since the age of 18, Sesko now has 16 goals in 41 caps for Slovenia and featured prominently at Euro 2024.
