Liverpool prepare club-record £120m bid for Alexander Isak

Premier League champions Liverpool are reportedly preparing a club-record £120 million offer to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, as Reds manager Arne Slot looks to strengthen his forward line following the tragic death of Diogo Jota.

While no formal bid has been submitted, Isak is top of Liverpool’s transfer list, with the Reds keen to land the Swedish forward ahead of next season.

Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £63million in 2022, had an impressive outing last term, scoring 23 Premier League goals and helping the Magpies return to the Champions League.

He also netted in Newcastle’s historic League Cup final win over Liverpool, ending the club’s 70-year domestic trophy drought.

The 25-year-old is currently in Austria for pre-season training and has three years left on his current deal.

Newcastle, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, are reportedly trying to extend his contract and have placed a £150 million valuation on him to ward off suitors, with Arsenal also monitoring the situation.

Isak is not believed to be pushing for a move, but Liverpool’s serious interest could test Newcastle’s resolve.

Meanwhile, the Reds are also linked with other forwards, including Eintracht Frankfurt’s £70m-rated Hugo Ekitike, as uncertainty remains over the futures of Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa.
