Former NRA chairman Tade Azeez dies at 63

Former Chairman of the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA), Tade Azeez, has passed away at 63 following a brief illness.

Azeez was a highly respected figure in Nigerian football, first rising through the ranks as a top-tier referee before transitioning into leadership roles that helped shape the future of refereeing in the country.

During his tenure as NRA Chairman, he championed transformative programmes that aligned the body with the demands of the modern, technology-driven football era.

He was also a key figure of the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), a period widely regarded as pivotal in advancing football development and sustainability in the state.

Born with a passion for football, Azeez began his officiating journey early and quickly distinguished himself.

His commitment to the game earned him a reputation as one of the most respected referees of his generation. As a two-time NRA Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the LSFA, he served as a mentor and father figure to many within the football community.
