Deloitte unites organisations through soccer

In a bid to promote healthy lifestyle, create bonding and improve the social life among corporate organisations, Nigerian foremost financial services, Deloitte, over the weekend organized a five-aside soccer tourney.

The event, which is in its second edition, saw eight teams, comprising of Deloitte 1 & 2, MTN, Eco Bank, Skye Bank, Silverbird Group, Nigerian Breweries and Addax Petroleum compete for the trophy at the AstroTurf ground, Ikoyi

High fighting and dogged Skye Bank won this year edition after edging Eco Bank 4-3 on penalties to retain the Deloitte Soccer Tournament.

Speaking at the event, Tawaude Gumbo, Deloitte Transitional Leader disclosed the tournament was designed to bring together different business sectors to socialize and keep fit.

“This tournament is aimed at bringing together different organizations to create opportunities for them to interact, exchange ideas, keep fit and above all have fun,” Gumbo said.

Gumbo further said the participating teams were cut across all business sectors with emphasis on organisations that are partners with Deloitte.

Also speaking at the event, Marie-Therese Phido, Director, West Africa, Clients and Industries leader, Deloitte Nigeria, said every participating team is a winner as the aim of the competition is to form a bond among corporate organisations. “It was just to create an avenue for corporate workers to relax, exercise, socialize and form a bond among themselves,” Phido said.

Group Head, Enterprise Risk Management, Skye Bank, Femi Aribaloye, whose team won the event, said he was not surprised with the victory as the bank has pool of players to draw from.

“By virtue the fact that we do participate in the Nigerian Bankers Games in which we are house hold names, so it was easier to present players to participate and win the Deloitte Soccer Tournament.”

MTN won the third place after defeating Addax Petroleum 2-1.
