Atletico Madrid make Alex Iwobi summer transfer priority

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Nigerian international Alex Iwobi, following his standout season with Premier League side Fulham.

The 29-year-old midfielder enjoyed the most prolific campaign of his career in the 2024/25 season, notching nine goals and six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions for the Cottagers.

His impressive form has caught the attention of Diego Simeone’s side, who are keen to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new La Liga season.

According to a report by Africa Foot, Atletico have made Iwobi a top target as part of their midfield overhaul.

“As part of their midfield project, Atletico are reportedly targeting Alex Iwobi. After an excellent 2024/25 season with Fulham, the Nigerian international is reportedly a priority for the Spanish management,” the report stated.

The La Liga outfit are said to have tabled a €25 million bid and have offered Iwobi a four-year contract worth €7 million per year. Sources close to the player suggest that Iwobi and his representatives are intrigued by the offer and are seriously considering the move.

Iwobi, who is under contract with Fulham until June 2028, is currently valued at €28 million, according to Transfermarkt. Fulham, however, may be reluctant to part ways with one of their key performers, especially after his instrumental role last season.

Having previously played for Arsenal before joining Everton and then Fulham, Iwobi’s potential move to Atletico Madrid would mark his first foray into La Liga and a significant step in his club career.

With Atletico looking to rebuild and Iwobi in peak form, the coming weeks could see the Super Eagles star make a major move to one of Europe’s top leagues.
