Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has denied rumours suggesting she plans to retire from international football after the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking to reporters in Rabat following Nigeria’s 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the WAFCON final on Saturday, Oshoala, the six-time African Player of the Year, labelled the speculation as false and unfounded.

“I don’t know where that came from, but agenda must be agenda. I get it, but I’m not bothered,” Oshoala said. “I’m still here. I’m still playing. I’m still doing my job. That’s what I’m focused on.”
The 30-year-old Bay FC forward reiterated her commitment to wearing the green and white whenever called upon.
Despite playing a more limited role in the tournament, often coming off the bench as coach Justin Madugu shuffled his tactical setup, Oshoala remained an integral member of the squad that lifted a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest African female footballers of all time, Oshoala has scored in three consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cups and has won the CAF African Women’s Footballer of the Year award a record six times since making her senior debut in 2013.
Her comments bring clarity to rumours sparked by her reduced minutes during the tournament, affirming her readiness to continue representing Nigeria on the international stage.
