Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has hinted that former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is expected to return to full fitness by May, following an injury that has delayed his fight plans.
Anthony Joshua has been sidelined since his knockout loss to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium six months ago. While a return in early 2025 seemed likely, an injury has put his plans on hold.

Following Anthony Joshua’s loss and Tyson Fury‘s subsequent retirement announcement, speculation arose that Joshua’s injury was fabricated to facilitate a potential “Battle of Britain” showdown with Fury.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Hearn dismissed the claims and provided a clear timeline for his recovery.

“No, not at all. We’re not going to just make up an injury. Basically, if we were waiting, we’d just say, ‘we’re not going to fight at the moment’ and see what happens,” Hearn stated.
He clarified that Anthony Joshua returned to the gym but was unable to punch with his usual intensity.
“He went back to the gym, but he’s not able to punch as he’d like to. He’s got five weeks left until he can punch properly.”
Hearn also made it clear that Anthony Joshua is not delaying his return for Fury’s sake.
“We’re not waiting for Tyson Fury. If that opportunity arises, fantastic. If not, we’ll just get fit, get ready, and decide who we’re going to fight next,” he added.
