Lagos, Nigeria, July 11, 2025 — Nigerian digital bank Carbon has unveiled Carbon Nexus, a new payment infrastructure solution designed to help businesses improve how they collect, track, and reconcile customer payments. The product was officially launched during Lagos Startup Week 2025, and is positioned to address long-standing operational challenges faced by small businesses, tech startups, and fast-growing enterprises across the country.
With Carbon Nexus, businesses can create dedicated virtual sub-accounts (NUBANs) for customers, enabling them to track incoming payments in real time, automate reconciliation, and improve cash flow visibility.
“Payment collection remains one of the most underestimated operational hurdles for Nigerian businesses,” said Ngozi Dozie, CEO and co-founder of Carbon. “With Carbon Nexus, we’re bringing order, structure, and automation to the way businesses manage inflows, giving them the confidence and clarity they need to plan and grow.”

A Two-Phase Rollout: For Tech Platforms and Traditional Businesses
At launch, Nexus is available as a Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) product, accessible via API integration. This initial rollout targets fintechs, product teams, and digital platforms that want to embed payment functionality directly into their operations.
Key features include:
- Generation of static or dynamic virtual accounts tied to customers or transactions
- Real-time transaction monitoring
- Payment alerts delivered via webhooks
- Seamless integration into existing systems for reconciliation, wallets, or billing
By the end of Q3 2025, Carbon will launch a merchant-facing, low-code version of Nexus within the Carbon Business app; enabling small businesses and
SMEs to manage collections without the need for coding or external development support.

This next phase will feature a conversational AI interface that allows users to request virtual accounts, track transactions, and receive payment notifications via SMS, email, or webhooks; all through a simple chat-style experience.
Addressing a Real Business Need
Carbon Nexus is built to solve the everyday challenges of collecting money in a market where payments often come in installments, customers delay, and operational resources are stretched thin. The product is especially relevant for:
- Retailers managing deposits and staggered payments
- Schools and training centres collecting fees in installments
- Property managers and associations handling rent and levies
- Tech startups embedding payment capabilities into digital products
- Professional services and informal merchants seeking better cash flow control
“Business owners want to focus on growth, not constantly chasing or reconciling payments,” Dozie said. “Nexus simplifies the financial backbone of any business, so founders, operators, and merchants can make better decisions, faster.”

Availability
Carbon Nexus is currently available to select partners via API integration. The merchant-focused version will launch publicly in Q3 2025 within the Carbon Business app. Businesses interested in early access or integration can email sme@getcarbon.co for more information.
