The Senate, on Thursday, confirmed the nomination of Kingsley Udeh as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Udeh’s confirmation followed the presentation of his profile and an interactive session during which he answered questions from Senators Osita Ngwu and Asuquo Ekpeyong.
After the screening, Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the confirmation to a voice vote, which received an overwhelming “aye” from lawmakers.
President Bola Tinubu had, in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary, requested the Senate’s confirmation of Udeh, who hails from Enugu State. The nomination, conveyed under Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), was to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the former Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, who stepped down on October 7 following allegations of certificate forgery.
In the letter, Tinubu wrote, “In compliance with the provisions of Section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate the nomination of Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh for confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The President urged the Senate to accord the request “the usual expeditious consideration,” expressing confidence in Udeh’s competence and service record.
The nomination was earlier referred to the Committee of the Whole for consideration but was temporarily suspended pending security clearance.
Until his nomination, Udeh served as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State.
