The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified its clampdown on vehicle theft, arrested suspected criminals and recovered four stolen vehicles in separate operations.

This followed a complaint lodged at the Jabi Police Division on July 23, 2025, by one Okanemhen, who reported that her driver, identified as Abubakar Nuhu from Magana Village, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, had absconded with her trailer, a truck with registration number GWA 40 XC.

The incident occurred after Nuhu delivered a consignment of cement at a factory in Obajana, Kogi State.

According to the Police Command, the suspect had deliberately removed three tracking devices installed on the trailer but failed to detect a fourth hidden tracker, which enabled operatives to trace the vehicle.

“Acting swiftly, officers of the Jabi Division tracked and recovered the trailer in Kaduna State, where the suspect was arrested”, the Police said.

According to the Command, investigations revealed that all identification markings on the truck had been erased with black paint to frustrate tracing.

“Nuhu is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest his accomplices who are still at large”, it said.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Anti-Car Theft Section and the Scorpion Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) recovered three more vehicles stolen at different times within the FCT.

They include a white Toyota Hilux with registration number YAB 891 EL, a butchered Toyota Camry in ash colour, and a Toyota Corolla “bank model” that had also been stripped down.

While the Hilux was recovered intact, both the Camry and the Corolla had been dismantled and sold off in parts as spare parts and scrap.

Two suspects, identified as Ikechukwu Iwueze and his accomplice, Amobi, an ex-convict, were arrested in connection with the case.

The duo, according to the Police, confessed to receiving and reselling parts of the stolen vehicles.

Police confirmed that they would be charged tincourt upon conclusion of investigations.

Ajao Adewale,  FCT Commissioner of Police, CP, praised the officers involved in the operations for their swift and coordinated response.

He urged residents to take proactive measures, such as installing functional tracking devices in their vehicles and conducting proper background checks on employees, especially those entrusted with sensitive responsibilities.

He also appealed to residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities using the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 07057337653.

Josephine Adeh, Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP, Nina’s statement issued on Saturday, reiterated the police’s commitment to stamping out vehicle theft and related crimes in the FCT.
