Odu’a Investment, NMA, JCI begin Ebola campaign in Oyo

Odu’a Investment Company Limited yesterday in Ibadan launched an awareness campaign on the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

The campaign launched in conjunction with the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Oyo State chapter and the Junior Chamber International (JCI) kicked off with a sensitisation lecture by Muideen Olatunji, a medical doctor and chairman of NMA in Oyo State.

In his lecture entitled: “Ebola Virus Disease: Basic Clinical Syndrome, Care and Management,”  at Cocoa House, Ibadan, Oyo state capital, Olatunji said corporate individuals and other well meaning Nigerians must unite to support medical doctors and hospitals with Personal Protection Equipemnts (PPE),  and create Isolation centres to fight against Ebola virus.

Olatunji identified some symptoms of Ebola Virus such as fever, flu, sore throat, muscle pain, red eye, asthemia, rash, diarrhea, vomiting among others.

According to Olatunji, there have been more than 3,000 reported cases and more than 1,600 deaths since the discovery of Ebola virus.

 He advised Nigerians to avoid direct contact with blood, dead body, fluids or cadavers. Also aerosol spray, sexual transmission and percutaneous.

“Wear personal protective equipment, manage patients in isolation, discourage traditional burial practices, practice barrier nursing techniques,” he stated

In his address, Adewale Raji, group managing director of Odu’a, said the campaign was to increase awareness on the measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

Raji, who was represented by Abimbola Ilori, the general manager, human resources, urged the staff and the public to continue with the hygienic measure of washing their hands, frequent use of sanitisers, avoid eating bush meat and touching or washing of the dead.

Shortly after the lecture, fliers on Ebola virus were shared to sensitise people who thronged the two shopping malls located around the central business district  in Dugbe.
