It has been months after the controversy surrounding local government administration in Rivers State, yet, uncertainty still clouds the legality of actions taken during the political crisis.
Between April and September 2025, unelected local government administrators controlled about N71.5 billion in grassroots funds. These funds were disbursed while legal battles over the legitimacy of the administrators were still pending in court.
Despite constitutional provisions that local governments must be run by democratically elected officials, the Supreme Court has yet to deliver judgment on the matter.
This delay raises questions about governance, accountability, and transparency in one of Nigeria’s most politically charged states.
