All work and no play?…….(fill in the gap)!! This is an old popular saying which pretty much have been misunderstood by many in the business and career world. As an Executive reading this article, when last did you play any outdoor game? How often do you take evening walks and early morning jogging? Hey, do not switch your mind towards excercise because that is not my focus with this topic. Though some of the activities i will look at can be refered to as part of excercise but am just going to talk about executives being active and giving their blood flow a jump. The word excercise always scare people as if it is one hell of a task that can not be accomplished if one so desired.
What most people who complains of body weakness and pains fail to understand is that, they have allowed their body to be so dormant to the extent that every organ in their body is functioning at God’s mercy. The regular body pains and fatigue you have been having is not due to work load….partly though but mostly because, your body system needs to be jumpstarted with regular physical recreational activities that you know how to do and also enjoy doing.
Ok…there are two things here. The activities i am refering here must be something you know how to do or want to learn how to do, and secondly it must be enjoyed by you while you do it and make you to laugh and be excited. Now this is where this topic differs somehow with excercise regime . There are most excercise regimes we can plan for people specifically to lose weight but most times, the individuals do not love or enjoy doing them till years after they must have lost some weight and get used to them. These individuals must do them so that they can achieve their weightloss aim. Here, your recreational activities is not specifically for you to lose weight(though it could be an advantage if you are on the fat side) but the aim here is to boost your blood circulation , energy level and hype your productivity at work.
You could decide to skip your recreational plans when you can’t afford to do it and still feel good but if it is a weightloss excercise plan, you can’t miss a plan.
Having drawn a line here, what are some flexible enjoyable recreational activities you can add to your career life? Most of you while at school used to play games like- table tennis, volley ball, lawn tennis, squash, football, badminton, handball, basket ball etc. I used to represent my school in Lawn Tennies and badminton and still play them till date. These are two out door games i recreate with and also enjoy so much to play. My dad actually taught me how to play them, i used to play with him as a teenager and while at secondary school i developed it.
These games can be fun and pumps the blood to refresh your internal organs and boost your energy level. The good thing is that, you must not be a pro. to enjoy them once you have a team you love to play with. Once in a while your organization can still compete with others in a fun occassion but the catch here is, for you to be active and keep your body system in great shape. How about stress management? Your recreational activties goes a long way to help you relieve stress and manage it without medications. Simply running around mildly during the time of play can warm your blood and entire body up and relieve tension that builds up and creates stress. Job anxiety can also be reduced when your body is fully active and this allows your brain to think freely, comfortably thereby increasing your work productitivity.
A game like basket ball can be played alone if you do not have partners to play with. It involves lots of movement and belive me, if you love this game, you are just good to go. You can also attract partners when those who also love it and see you making your runs sees you. Honestly they come to ask you if they can join you play. Executives with big compound where you live can easily build a basket ball yard somewhere in compound where you can do your thing any time you like. Make use of the empty space of land you have at home and turn it into a recreational outlet for you and your family.
Earlier in this talk i said something about the popular saying—all work and no play…being misunderstood. People think the catch here is just going to parties, visiting peppersoup and fast foods outlets every evening and weekends…..this is not what i think who ever that coined this slang means. Now talking of peppersoup and fast foods outlets as recreation, i want to alert the men and women who pay lawn tennis/squash with a registered club every evening and after one round of play, sit down and demolish heaps plates of big lumps of meat of peppersoup and wash it down with several bottles of green and black bottles of alcoholic beverages that, they should do this occassionally. Alternatively, you can ask your club owners to add up healthy stuffs like –smoothies, fresh fruits salads, fresh varieties of vegetable salads, fresh fish barbecues so your health benefits. Meat and alcohol can be consumed occassionally because such consumables seems to sabotage all your efforts health wise.

Executives who have a good outdoor recreational life are always on top of their Body Image and have high self confidence and esteem thereby creating high productivity level at work level. Always get a medical check with your GP before starting any physical activity, tell him/her what you plans are so you do not over stretch your body. Those of you who are hypetensive must watch your level of recreation. The good news is that recreation is one of the best treatment for hypethension as long as you do it moderately.
