21 Nigerian students visit UK for globalisation and cultural exchange experience

As part of its effort to produce globally competitive students, Divine International Schools, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State recently sponsored 21 students and staff to London, United Kingdom for a two-week excursion trip to celebrate Globalisation, oneness and culture programme.

The trip, which will see the students and staff visit many places of interest for the also provide an opportunity for the students to explore cultural exchange in the United Kingdom, even as they are billed to visit the Nigerian House in London, with a courtesy visit to the office of Ambassador Tafida Dahaltu, Nigeria’s high commissioner to the United a kingdom.

Nneka Latunde – Dada, school’s administrator, in an interview at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, prior to their departure explained that the trip to the United a kingdom will afford the school and its students to have firsthand experience of the way educational system in the United Kingdom operates, with a view to bringing back home experience that will improve the teaching and learning skills both of the students and teachers.

Dada said the excursion will also serve as a window for the students to see for themselves things they have read about the former colonial masters of Nigeria, adding that such historical and cultural relationship will broaden the understanding of the students.

She further said the excursion will also serve as a window for the managers of the school to network and partner schools in the United Kingdom, who are interested in setting up study centres in Bayelsa State, especially in the preparation of students and candidates for international examinations.

The administrator explained that with a vast knowledge of the historical and tourism sites in Nigeria, which the students have visited during excursion, it is imperative to step up the game by widening the horizon of the students as future leaders of the nation, who need international exposure.

While commenting on the theme of the excursion, the administrator noted that Globalisation, oneness and culture, was carefully selected to align the student’s understanding with cultural exchange across the globe and the need to appreciate the benefits derivable by visiting other countries, as members of the global community.

“Since 2001, when the school was established, the proprietor has not relented in ensuring that the college delivers on its mandate of giving quality education as an instrument for social mobilisation and social re-engineering,” she said. The students also expressed excitement over the excursion, which they said will further their understanding on issues relating to culture, for those who are in the specialty of arts, even as the students in sciences noted that it will assist them to get hands on experience on the relevance of technology in relation to the developed and developing worlds.
