…We have agreed to work together – Wike
…We will sustain this new peace – Fubara

There are indications that President Bola Tinubu may soon lift the State of Emergency imposed on Rivers State, following apparent return of peace in the governance.

This followed President Tinubu’s meeting with the waring groups again  on Thursday night behind close doors, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

This also followed several peace meetings brokered by the President after several consultations.

BusinessDay gathered that the President  met with the waring factions late on Thursday night to receive reports of the peace meetings between Governor Sim Fubara, Nyesom Wike, his estranged political mentor and the lawmakers who reportedly defected from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.

The meeting with President Tinubu lasted until the early hours of Friday.

“They have resolved their differences and have also agreed to work together,” a source close to the meeting said.

” They have reconciled their differences and left the Aso Rock happy and I think that is what everyone has been praying for so that peace can be restored.”

President Tinubu had on the 18th of March, imposed a Statement of Emergency on  the State over the crises between Fubara and the lawmakers.

Confirming the resolution of the disputes at the end of the meeting, Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister and former Governor of Rivers said an agreement has been brokered, adding that ” We have all agreed to work with the Governor”.

” We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family.

“Yes, just like humans, you have a disagreement, and then you also have a time to also settle your disagreement.

” That  has been finally concluded today, and we have come to report to Mr. President, that is what we have agreed so for me, everything is over.
” I  enjoin everybody who believe to work with us, to also work together with everybody that there’s no more acrimony. There’s nothing more to say.”

Governor Sim Fubara also confirmed the development when he said ” We will work to sustain this peace”

” For me, it’s a day we have to thank Almighty God. For me, is it very important that this day has come to be.

“What we need for the progress of Rivers State is peace and by the special grace of God this night, with the help of Mr. President and the agreement of the leaders of the state, our leader, peace has returned in river states.

” We’ll do everything within our power to make sure that we sustain it this time around”
