The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has denied reports that it owed ad-hoc staff who conducted the Saturday, 12th July 2025 council election in the state.

In recent days, reports are circulating in the media that LASIEC is yet to pay the ad-hoc staff allowances one month after the election was held.

Segun Komolafe, one of the ad-hoc staff who worked as Presiding Officer in Kosofe area, told newsmen that LASIEC had not paid him one month after the poll. Komolafe said that LASIEC kept telling them to be patient, adding that they were running out of patience after one month of waiting in vain for the commission.

However, in a statement to journalists on Wednesday, the commission refutes the claims.

The commission noted that contrary to the publication, all duly verified ad-hoc staff have been paid in accordance with the established schedule, with payments completed within the last two weeks.

The statement pointed that only few outstanding cases exist due to incomplete or incorrect bank details, stressing that respective electoral officers of the affected individuals have been advised to liaise with the concerned ad-hoc staff, to regularize their account information.

According to the statement, verification is on-going with the designated officers at the Commission to ensure that those with corrected details are settled promptly.

“The use of the word outrage in the publication is unnecessarily sensational. At no time did the Commission receive formal complaints or petitions from ad-hoc staff regarding unpaid wages.

“The insinuation of embezzlement is false and misleading.

“Such misrepresentations undermine public confidence in democratic institutions.

“LASIEC remains committed to conducting its duties with transparency, integrity, and fairness, and urges media houses and the public to verify facts before publication.

“LASIEC highly values the contributions of ad-hoc staff who ensured the successful conduct of the Saturday, 12th July 2025 Local Government elections”.
