Gov. Eno raises alarm over control of APC structure in A’Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has raised concerns over what he described as a scramble for the control of party structure by stakeholders of the APC in the state.

The governor, who raised the alarm during a Thanksgiving Service to open activities for the 38th anniversary of the State, Sunday, September 21, noted with dismay that he is aware that many stakeholders of the party, in their desperate moves to control structure and claim political leadership, hold nuctornal meetings, a development he described as counterproductive to his inclusive and unity mission in the state.

He also warned agitators of the Obolo state creation to desist from attempts to create division and jeopardise the unity and bond that has bound the state from the beginning.

”No matter the length of your memoranda and agitation, you will not get Obolo State. Akwa Ibom will remain one” he governor warned.

Recall that Governor Umo Eno was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party in 2023, but defected to the All Progressives Congress in June 2025, a party that had established structure and leadership before he came on board.

Pundits believe the structure and network of Akwa Ibom state APC remain with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who had been a stakeholder and contested twice on its platform.

A close source to Senator Akpabio, who pleaded anonymity, hinted to our correspondent that Gov. Umo Eno is so concerned about the control of the structure of the APC in the state.

According to him, the quest for the Governor’s second term has created tensions and inspired the governor’s earlier suspension of chapter and ward leaders of the party.

”The issue is not Umo Eno’s second term. Akpabio will support him because he is comfortable with Gov. Umo Eno. The issue is Umo Eno’s successor, who will be coming from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, where Senator Akpabio comes from.

” Akpabio is interested in who rules the state in 2031. That is the masquerade behind the struggle for the control of the APC structure” he said.
