…Salutes Rivers children, promises to create platform for their talents to manifest

Sim Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State, may have given two key hints to his supporters and to the people of the state reading his lips.

To his support base, he has given coded message, asking them to ‘turn the next page’ so they can come together and rebuild the state. This has been understood to mean that time for verbal warfare is over.

This may agree with notions that he has made significant trips and moves that may result in reconciliation with his main opponent (FCT Minister) as well as appease Aso Rock. Many say it may even lead to defection to the national ruling party (APC) from his PDP.

The second hint is seen as his conviction that his constitutional mandate sealed with an oath of office cannot easily be snatched from him with mere fiat. He said he is committed to the oath.

He said he remained steadfast to the oath of office he took 24 months ago, despite what he called political turbulence.

Fubara spoke to the people of the state, not through a broadcast but through a statement he signed and distributed through his media aide, Nelson Chukwudi.

He said the journey in the past two years has been challenging but impactful. Saying his actions even in the present circumstance were guided by the oath he took and the promise he made to the people, he pledged to protect and promote the collective interests of the people. He also promised to ensure that the people enjoyed the real dividends of democracy and good governance.

Despite the turbulence, he said his commitment remains unshaken. “I am proud of the visible milestones we have achieved, modest but significant strides in healthcare, education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, human capital development, and the inclusion of women in governance.

“These achievements would not have been possible without your unwavering support and hope in the brighter future we all envision for Rivers State. For your sacrifices, contributions, and the roles you’ve played in your respective capacities, I say a heartfelt thank you.”

Fubara seems sure to return, saying: “As we look ahead, I reaffirm my pledge to consolidate on our gains and remain fully committed to the key priorities of this administration: peace, security, community welfare, and the socio-economic advancement of our State. Though our momentum may have been affected by political circumstances, our focus remains clear, and we are determined to emerge stronger, more united, and more result-oriented.”

He gave hints: “As we reflect on the lessons of the past two years, I am hopeful for what lies ahead. I look forward to working hand in hand with all of you to build a State we can all be proud of: a Rivers State that stands as a model for the rest of Nigeria.”

He gave his biggest hint to his support base, appealing to them thus: “To those still carrying the weight of our recent political struggles, I appeal to you, let us turn the page, come together, and focus on our shared goal of progress and unity. The time to rebuild and rise is now.”

To the children of the state on Children’s Day, the governor said: “You, our children, are the most precious treasure we have. Your talents, dreams, energy, and creativity are limitless gifts waiting to be nurtured and unlocked for the good of our state and our nation.”

Reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to the well-being and development of children, Gov Fubara highlighted ongoing investments in education

healthcare, and child protection. These efforts, he said, are aimed at building a future where every child in Rivers State can thrive.

“We are creating platforms where your gifts can shine, because we believe that e child in Rivers State has something unique to offer. Let this day remind you that you matter, your voice counts, and your dreams are valid,” he added.

The governor also commended the vital role played by parents, teachers, and caregivers in raising the younger generation. He called on all stakeholders to continue working collaboratively to help every child discover and fulfill their potential.
