After almost 8 days of police siege in his Maitama, Abuja home, Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye has handed himself to the police authorities on Friday afternoon.
BusinessDay gathered that the lawmaker is in custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Abuja, where he was said to be wanted. Dino reportedly arrived the SARS Office in company of his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome and two federal lawmakers, Boma Goodhead and Atai Aidoko- Ali a senator from Kogi state.
Melaye and the lawmakers that accompanied him are still in SARS office at the time of writing this report.
The police had insisted they will not retreat from Melaye’s, residence until the lawmaker surrenders himself for arrest and investigation. The police had surrounded the Maitama home of the lawmaker since Friday, December 28.
Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, in an earlier statement said that Melaye is wanted by the Police for a case of Criminal Conspiracy and Attempted Culpable Homicide, committed on 19th July, 2018, when he and his armed thugs attacked Police personnel; shot and wounded Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) on stop and search duty along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State.
