Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to be calm following Tuesday’s bombing in Yobe State, resulting in the death of many people and the explosions in Okrika, Rivers State, at the APC gubernatorial campaign where many supporters were injured. In a statement released by the Atiku Media Office Wednesday, the APC chieftain pointed out that Nigeria’s democracy was on trial, adding that no matter what efforts were applied to the contrary, Nigerians should never give up their desire for change. “Nigerian democracy can and must withstand terror,” Atiku said, adding, “Whether the terror is from insurgents or from desperate politicians, in the end, democracy must prevail.”

The former vice president called for a strong bipartisan signal or approach against those who are willing to sacrifice the nation for political gain. “Our political elders must lift up their voices against violent desperados within their parties, and anyone found guilty should be punished severely and openly.”
