Former President Goodluck Jonathan says his former Attorney-General, Mohammed Bello Adoke, was chased around the world by investigators looking into a controversial oil deal.
Jonathan was speaking at the launch of Adoke’s new book in Abuja on Thursday when he made these comments. The book is called, ‘OPL 245: Inside Story of the $1.3 Billion Nigerian Oil Block.’
However, it was former Senate president Pius Anyim who read Jonathan’s speech at the event.
The former president explained that after he left office in 2015, people began targeting key members of his government. Adoke was one of the worst affected.
“The author of this memoir, Mr. Bello Adoke, was the Attorney-General of the Federation at that time. He was hunted across the globe,” Jonathan said.
“But today, he’s alive, he’s healthy, and he’s here to tell his story.”

Jonathan said Adoke wrote the book to tell people what really happened. He called it a brave move that helps with justice and building the nation. He praised Adoke for staying strong during difficult times, calling him a friend and brother.
The former president also had a message for current politicians. He reminded them that power doesn’t last forever and that they should use it fairly and honestly.
“Power belongs to God,” he said. “The best anyone who is blessed with the opportunity of holding public office should do is to commit to the assignment and use the opportunity to uphold truth, justice, and fairness.”
Jonathan then said no country can have peace or make progress without justice. He said Adoke’s book isn’t just about his personal experience – it’s about preserving truth and democratic values for everyone.
“To some, the occasion may be a book presentation. To others, it is a celebration of victory over persecution,” he concluded.
