The Plateau State Government has condemned in strong terms the brutal attack on Bidi (Jebu) community of Tahoss village in Riyom Local Government Area, which has now claimed 27 lives, leaving several others injured and homes destroyed.
The attack, which occurred on Monday night was carried out by yet to be identified gunmen. Government officials described the assault as “senseless and unacceptable,” while offering condolences to the families of the deceased and others affected.
In a swift response, the Plateau state government has directed security agencies to intensify surveillance in the area and ensure the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice. The government also ordered additional deployment of troops to restore calm and prevent further violence.
Speaking through a press statement on behalf of the state government and made available to Journalists on Tuesday night in Jos, Joyce Ramnap, Plateau state Commissioner of Information and Communication appealed for calm among residents of Bidi, Sopp, and neighboring communities. She urged them to avoid any form of retaliation, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
The government’s call for peace comes amid heightened tensions in the area, with many communities still recovering from previous violent outbreaks. The recent attack has renewed concerns over rural security and the increasing threat of armed banditry.

“The Plateau State Government is deeply saddened by the unfortunate attack on Bidi (Jebu) community of Tahoss village in Riyom Local Government Area on Monday, 14th July, 2025, which led to the loss of lives and properties .
“This senseless act of violence by yet to be identified gunmen is strongly condemned and unacceptable. Government sympathizes with the families of the victims and all those affected by this tragic incident.
“His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and bring the perpetrators to justice through additional deployment of troops.
“Government is appealing to the people of Bidi, Sopp, and surrounding communities to remain calm, be vigilant, avoid any form of retaliation,report any suspicious activities to authorises and cooperate with security agencies.”; the statement reads in part.
As investigations continue, the Plateau State Government has encouraged community cooperation with security agencies to ensure lasting peace, while stressing that justice will be served for the victims of the Bidi tragedy.
