I had a date on Sunday which was valentine and on Friday, I woke up with 3 pimples on my face and other black spots scattered all over my face as a result of pimples. I was tempted to pick my phone, call my date and cancel the date. The picture I have as my profile on Facebook shows my face looking smooth and beautiful, all thanks to Photoshop…lol…don’t give me that “what?” look, I am sure yourself, myself and several others are guilty. I just couldn’t imagine him seeing me looking different from what he had seen even on Facebook.
He is quite comfortable and caring and I longed to meet him too. The date was scheduled to take place at nice restaurant on the island. I really looked forward to the date. I won’t call myself poor neither am I rich. I stay at mile 2, and of course I went by public transport ‘molue ’….yes, I said molue…ki ni big deal?
Reminiscing on our conversation on the phone, I sounded really posh…he just had the impression that I was well put together…(Facebook things…lol!). He was really looking forward to meeting me. I also, but after seeing what my face looked like in the mirror, I dreaded meeting him.
I sat thinking of what to do when I remembered a friend of mine who is a make-up artist. I called her up immediately, on the second ring, she picked the call. I told her my problem. “Dami, I don’t know what to do, I have a date for valentine tomorrow and babe if you see my face hmnnnn, you will run faster than Jerry when he’s chased by Tom, please help my predicament”. I said to her after which she replied and said, “What is the problem? Did you have an accident? And I replied “No, it is pimples and black spots all over my face.”
She gave a very long hiss and she said “you mean, you are frantic over ordinary pimples and black spots? Just a touch of foundation and concealer and the whole thing will disappear. Don’t worry on Sunday morning I’ll come over to your place and give you a makeover”. I couldn’t stop thanking her, even after the conversation was over.
On Sunday morning after taking my bath, Dami arrived. I said to her “Dami, look at my face very well oooo, are you sure your foundation and concealer will hide these pimples and black spots? It seemed to have gotten worse, and besides, this date is very important. I must look very nice. He is nice and sweet and I am hoping that it will lead us to the altar.” I said after which my friend laughed and told me not to worry.
She started working on my face. She began with my eye brows and she carved them to perfection. She then used an eye pencil and a brow filer to make it look grand. She also used concealer with an angle brush to make it look neat and attractive. She further applied different shades of eye shadows that matched the cloth I wore. One after the other, she picked items that aided my look. When she was done, I looked at my face in astonishment. I looked so different from who I was when I woke up in the morning. I couldn’t stop looking at the mirror. In a jiffy, I was all dressed and ready to go.
My date was already waiting for me where he had reserved for us. I walked to him where he sat, he looked up and saw me, he stared at me as if he was looking at an angel. He had a look that spoke volumes. He smiled warmly at me as I approached him and I also smiled in return. He couldn’t take his eyes off me all through. We talked and chatted and laughed. It was a wonderful evening.
The valentine went better than I imagined. While he drove me home I began to muse over everything. How, at first I thought the valentine might be a disaster and I almost cancelled it but then it turned to a very blissful one. I just looked up and thanked heavens…and make-up too…lol!
