With the numerous health complications caused by obesity and other weight problems, there are more incentives than ever before to staying physically fit. Staying fit is not only necessary for the overweight, however, but is useful to ensure healthy physical, mental and even emotional wellbeing. As you make your waistline shrink, here are a few ways to save some bucks and avoid the fear of going broke:

1. Eating balanced diet – The most important factor towards being fit is eating healthy. Avoid fat and cholesterol-rich food like they’re the plague. Instead, reduce carb intake and consume more vegetables and fruits. When you feel like having a snack, choose less of junk food like burgers and have snacks low in carbs such as popcorn (preferable salted popcorn), crackers and nuts. It is also cheaper to get your groceries and foodstuffs from your local food market.

2. Avoid eating out frequently – A great benefit to eating at home is the control you have over what goes into your food in terms of oil, fat and calories. Eating out also costs quite a lot – another benefit to eating at home.

 3. Research about affordable gym memberships: Not all gym memberships cost a fortune. It is lucrative to find out the ones that do not cost a lot and register for them. However, if you don’t find one, don’t despair. You can practise exercise routines daily from sites such as YouTube or download other workout videos online.

 4. Try daily exercise routines at home: If you’re looking to stay fit on a budget, instead of spending money for a gym membership or buying expensive exercise equipment, you can practice other exercise routines such as squats, sit-ups, jogging and running in the comfort of your home.

 5. Make staying fit a habit: Finally, cultivate the habit of healthy living as this is the surest way to remain physically fit. Do not indulge in a balanced diet ‘once in a while’, make it a daily habit.

If the weather is nice, take a walk instead of driving. Use the stairs instead of taking the elevator, burn some calories while dancing to your favorite song – all these are ways you can cultivate the habit of staying fit for a happier, healthier you.
