Osun state government recently said it had embarked on the training of 5,000 teachers annually as part of its programmes to enhance human capital and capacity development in the education sector.
The state’s commissioner for Adelani Baderinwa, Information and Strategy, said the teachers are being trained in Mathematics while headmasters and teachers are undergoing training in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Baderinwa, who spoke at a lecture marking Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun state Information chapel, noted that Osun state government presently has 15,000 teachers in its employment.
“This means that in three years, all the teachers would have benefited from one form of training or the other, according to the State Universal Basic Education Board”, Baderinwa said.
Baderinwa said the government would also build ICT centres in the modern schools across the state to train teachers periodically.
He added that government has recruited more teachers to fill up the shortages caused by death and retirement, while effort is ongoing to ensure vacancies are filled by systematic recruitment of more teachers to suit the efforts at rejuvenating the education sector the more.
The Commissioner also disclosed that Aregbesola’s administration has invested huge amount of money in infrastructural development in public schools across the state, with a view to create conducive learning environment.
The efforts of the government in bringing education back to the enviable position, Baderinwa further posited, is by re-inventing vibrant human resources in education and ensuring a good environment for teaching and learning.
