Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Monday, met behind closed with members of the nPDP at Presidential Villa in his residence, Aguda House.
There was no official explanation as to why the meeting which was originally scheduled to be hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari, was later shifted to the Vice President.
Members of the nPDP had on the 5th of April, handed down 14 points demands and 7-days ultimatum to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), over what they said was marginalization of its members since the coming of the current administration, which they helped to bring to power.
The said ultimatum signed by the Chairman, Abubakar Baraje and Secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola demanded an urgent meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and APC leadership to address their grievances
The group had in the letter decried marginalization, non inclusion and harassment of its members despite the huge contribution the group made to bring APC to power in 2015.
They also listed lack of ” significant patronage and appointments to executive positions in various government agencies such as Chief Executives and Executive Directors of government agencies and parastatals, as some of the reasons for their protest.
Soon after the letter was written, Oyinlola tendered his resignation from the Chairmanship of the National Identify Management Commission ( NIMC)
The group had noted that ” members of our block of the party continue to helplessly watch as these positions are shared by the erstwhile CPC, ACN, ANPP and even APGA blocks of the party and those who have no party at all
Other issues in contention include what they described as ” general lack of consultation, non recognition of their members in the current administration and the persecution of former nPDP members and leaders by the current government.
“For example, some of our leaders are denied the security cover necessary to visit their constituencies even though they are elected representatives of the people in a government they sacrificed so much for”.
It is however not clear who and who are attending the meeting which is being shielded from Journalists at the Presidential Villa.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape the future of the APC as it will determine whether the group will continue to remain in the party.
